Niches for cremated remains are also available in a mausoleum chapel began in early 1965.When completed in 1967 it included 1300 crypts with marble fronts and a beautiful chapel. Later renovations were made to include columbarium niches. With over twenty acres of land on the premises, Gate of Heaven began its ground development with the dedication of four burial sections in the cemetery. In each section a six foot statue was placed depicting different times in Jesus' life; the Garden of the Nativity, the Holy Family, the Resurrection, and the Ascension. The demand for crypts led to the construction of three outdoor Garden Crypt buildings. Most recently an addition to the indoor
mausoleum A building that provides crypts for caskets, in which embalming of the deceased is required. Niches for cremated remains are also available in a mausoleum was made. The construction added numerous patio crypts and niches.
Though the history of Gate of Heaven is newly written, the beauty and symmetry of this cemetery creates a peaceful sanctuary where all people can visit their loved ones in shadows of the Sandia Mountains.
